With a total of just under 50,000 visitors from 72 countries, the ITM proved a popular magnet for the trade. Mayer & Cie. recorded visits from over 330 companies – both customers and potential buyers – at its stand. With a truly international showing of visitors from countries including India, Bangladesh, Iran, Syria, Egypt, Pakistan, Russia and Usbekistan, the presence of MCT agents from not only Turkey but also Egypt, Syria, Usbekistan and Iran on the stand proved a major benefit when it came to offering country-specific advice to both existing and potential customers.
Mayer & Cie. took two international bestsellers to exhibit at the ITM 06 in Istanbul: the Relanit 1.6 R and the OVJA 1.6 ET using the full 3-way technique.
The Relanit 1.6 R offers the whole range of applications of a 4-needle single jersey machine. 4 needle tracks with slider cams make for an enormous range of knitted structures: Single jersey fabrics, crepe, 2-thread fleece and single jersey plated – also with up to 10 colour striping. The absence of any obstructions facilitates direct visual and physical access to the needle bed, making the Relanit particularly suited for striping. The other exhibit, the OVJA 1.6 ET – a fully electronic double jacquard machine with transfer using the three-way technique – ensures a cutting edge in fashion production with outstanding patterning scope using the full three-way technique and transfer. Proven MCT electronics featuring single needle selection guarantee minimal resetting times and exemplary functional reliability. The cylinder and dial cam can be simply adjusted from the outside.
The new BASICLine series featuring the S4-3.2 single jersey and D4-2.2 double jersey machines also attracted lively attention at the show. With its BASICLine, Mayer & Cie. is offering circular knitting machines for both single and double jersey production with a whole new production concept based on maximum standardization, material optimization and concentration of application scope, allowing legendary Mayer & Cie. technology to be made available with a more affordable price tag.
The decisive factor about the new BASICLine machines is that these remain in every way “thoroughbred” Mayer & Cie. circular knitting machines which comply fully with the stringent Mayer & Cie. quality standard, as visitors to the IMT were able to verify at first hand on the trade fair stand.
The S4-3.2 is the BASICLine model for the single jersey sector, and offers everything the producer requires for optimum fabric qualities in single jersey, in 2 and 4 needle structures as well as single jersey plated. It covers all the fabric weights customarily required in the apparel sector and achieves the typically high Mayer & Cie. output levels of 1.4 m/sec, corresponding to 35 revolutions per minute with a 30” diameter. The S4-3.2 is offered in diameters ranging from 30” to 38” and in gauges E18 to E32.
Versatility is one of the predominant requirements of many modern circular knitting manufacturers. With up to 4 needle types and 3 needle positions each, this is a machine with scope for a wide range of different structures, and facility for changeover to three-thread fleece makes the S4-3.2 an even more flexible option.
The D4-2.2 has everything it takes to produce top fabric quality in double jersey structures – also for normal and elastomer plating. The D4-2.2 is equipped as standard with cams for 2 needle types in the cylinder and dial cam. To ensure even greater flexibility, the machine can be upgraded with 4 needle tracks in the cylinder.
When resetting to different knitting constructions, complete segments can be exchanged, partially eliminating the need for cam changeover. Central stitch length adjustment also simplifies operation and helps reduce setting times.
The D4-2.2 is offered in diameters ranging from 30“ to 38“ and in gauges E18 to E28 as well as in E32. This machine provides the same high output you would expect from a Mayer & Cie. machine from 2.2 feeders per inch and a speed of 1.49 m/sec. (37 rpm with 30“).
The cylinder and dial can be quickly and safely exchanged using the new MCT “Quick Change” system to produce different gauge ranges. The knitting head and sinker ring can be exchanged in just a few hours without the need for any auxiliary supports.
Elastomer and other synthetic yarns are currently right in vogue. To allow this type of ultramodern synthetic yarn to also be produced without problems, both BASICLine machines are equipped as standard with high-precision Mayer & Cie. ceramic yarn feeders. To ensure crease-free takedown – particularly important when processing this type of yarn – a new, special open-width device was developed specifically for the machines of the BASICLine series which operates with outstanding precision and reliability and without distortion.
Judging by the clearly enthusiastic response to the BASICLine series at the show, Mayer & Cie. is surely onto a winner with this new concept, which opens up new target segments previously precluded from enjoying the benefits of Mayer & Cie. technology.
All in all, the ITM 2006 provided a highly satisfactory trade fair experience for Mayer & Cie., and one which is certain to be reflected in its sales figures.
