Successful Shanghaitex 2003 and extension of aftersales activities
The SHANGHAITEX was held for the first time at its new trade fair grounds in Pudong from December 10 – 13 2003. Despite following so quickly on the heels of the ITMA, the high expectations placed in this show were not only met but exceeded, with registration of around 122,000 visitors who made the journey to the 71,000 m² exhibition area. This is a clear pointer to the outstanding importance of the Chinese market for practically all textile machine engineering firms.

MAYER & Cie. was pleased to welcome practically all of the big names on the Chinese market, and sales concluded directly at the show reflected the calibre of its trade fair visitors. A total of three exhibits were on show at the stand shared jointly by Mayer & Cie. and its subsidiary MERZ Maschinenfabrik GmbH.
The first of the exhibits was a model OVJA 1.6 ETR machine featuring the full 3-way technique in gauge E18. This fully electronic circular knitting machine comes with transfer and striping facility and covers the entire spectrum of patterning possibilities offered by the internationally successful OVJA product family.
Also on show was a single jersey jacquard machine – also fully electronic – type Relanit 2.4 E, in a 34 inch diameter with gauge E28 and 82 feeders. Benefiting from the full three-way technique and extreme care of the yarn afforded by relative movement technology, this machine will produce practically the whole range of important single-face jacquard structures with outstanding profitability.
The third machine on the stand was the new body size jacquard machine – model MBS – exhibited by MERZ, on show to a broad trade public in the Asian region for the very first time.

Highlights of the trade fair also included the first birthday party of service subsidiary MAYER CHINA (MCC), which was held on the MCC premises in Pudong on the evening of December 12, 2003. The event was attended by almost 130 customers from the whole of China, who took the opportunity to find out more about the company's comprehensive range of services such as its training programme and patterning service as well as the availability of spare parts. Mr. Kaden, Service Manager at MCC, used the occasion to announce the opening of the second Service Centre in Foshan in the Southern Chinese province of Guangdong planned for January 01, 2004. Alongside the standard after-sales service, this office will also be used as a centre for additional services such as the patterning service or fast-track spares provision. There are now a total of 15 MCC technicians looking after the ever growing customer base in China.
